We thank the Department of Public Safety for keeping us safe on campus, but we tend to forget that Brown’s Information Security Group guards our information on the Internet. Last month, the Brown Daily Herald reported that while the University sees thousands of cyberattacks from foreign countries every day, ISG thwarts them in a superhero-like fashion. ISG deserves thanks for crushing evildoers’ attempts to steal the Sharpe Refectory’s top-secret Cajun chicken pasta recipe and Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron’s cape specifications. We should also thank ISG for guarding our emails to professors asking what pages we have to read for Monday, which, if leaked, would drastically alter the course of history.
In all seriousness, though, ISG keeps professors’ intellectual property safe from nefarious would-be hackers and guards us from annoying spam emails. Let’s give them a round of applause.
