The number of students pursuing an economics degree has increased due to the economy’s poor state. However, the economics department has not taken this into consideration, quite ironically. Any decent economics student could tell you that is a recipe for disaster. During these trying economic times, ideas are essential to the future of global economy. Economists are vital, and this is the time for our economics department to rise up to the challenge. By capping classes, Brown is also effectively limiting the freedom of the New Curriculum, and students are left to create their own black market for spaces in some of the most in-demand classes.
